The only person who believes he can take on even Rama, is Hanuman (let's keep Osama bin Laden out of this). Here's what happened when he once did.

On the occasion of its 29th anniversary, Kinnera Art Theatres is organising 29 days of Telugu stage dramas from different parts of the state, at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha, from 9th November to 7th December. As part of 26th day of the anniversary celebrations, Sri Ramanjaneya Yuddham is being staged today.

The mythological drama depicts the circumstances due to which Hanuman and his Lord Rama were forced to fight against each other.

It is all because of the simple mistake committed by the king Yayathi, who gets tired during his hunting spree, and after getting refreshed on the banks of the Sarayu river, first pays his respects to saint Vasistha, in preference to Viswamitra.

This angers Viswamitra, who vows to kill Yayathi for the insult. Being the guru of Lord Rama, Viswamitra seeks help from him. Unable to reject the request, Rama agrees. With death imminent, Yayathi pleads with Rama to spare his life. But as Rama had given his word with Viswamitra, he puts forth his helpness.

On the advice of Narada, who says that Hanuman is the only force in this universe who can face Rama, Yayathi, without revealing the background, gets a promise from Hanuman that he will be protected at any cost.

As both Rama and Hanuman are bound by their promises, they have to fight each other. Finally all ended well, as the gods descend to explain out that it was a purposefully created episode to establish the supremacy of the Lord.

The drama is being directed by P Lakshmana Rao and presented by Sri Balasaraswati Natyamandali of Sampathnagar, and tries to establish the fact that Ramabhakthi and Ramanaamam wield more power than the Lord himself in his physical form.

The celebrations will be inaugurated by K R Suresh Reddy, Vidhan Sabha Speaker. Dr Rallabandi Kavita Prasad, Director of the A P Cultural Wing, will be other guest. P Lakshmana Rao will be felicitated for his long service to theater.
