Here's a man who could be a better Krishna than Krishna himself. He's done it
1,000 times now, compared to the measly once that Krishna played himself.
Ayyadevara Purushottama Rao, a senior stage artist, is celebrating the 95th birth anniversary of the late film actor CSR and also the 28th of his organization, the CSR Kala Mandiram, today. On this event, a musical play called "Sri Krishna Tulabharam" will be staged. Rao himself will play the lead role of Krishna. Rao, being a senior stage artist, has taken part in around 2,000 dramas, and has donned the role of Krishna over 1,000 times now.
Five other artists, as Narada, Vasanthaka, Rukmini, Satyabhama and Cheli Nalini, will support Rao in the play. Rukmini's devotion for Krishna and the humbling of Satyabhama's ego by Krishna with the help of the sage Narada will be a part of the drama.
The same evening, Rao will be awarded with the title "Mohana Vamshi" by Jatiya Sahitya Parishad for donning the role of Krishna 1,000 times.
Rao established the CSR Kala Mandiram in the year 1973, in the memory of late CSR Anjaneyulu. CSR Anjaneyulu was a veteran actor who donned a number of mythological roles in Telugu movies in the late '60s. He enacted many villain roles, and a small number as hero too. That was the era of NTR and ANR. CSR was basically from theater, and had staged a number of mythological roles in that form of the art too.
