Sometimes it's such a pity that the dead tell no tales.
Jandhyala was one of the best of 'em all. And for a man who has some excellent serious tale-telling to his credit - Sankarabharanam (he scripted it), Nalugu Stambhala Aata and Ananda Bhairavi being significant examples - his greatest ones were the flippant variety. Surely you know about Ahana Pellanta?
As he left for his heavenly abode last month at the young age of 51, he left much more than his near and dear ones bereft. Known as a very kind-hearted person, this was the man who gave their breaks to, among others, Bramhanandam, Dharmavarapu Subramaniam, Pradeep and Kadambari Kiran Kumar.
Abhinandana, a cultural organization that conducts music programs every month, is arranging a musical event today as tribute to the late film director and also to the late music composer K V Mahadevan, who passed away around the same time.
Mahadevan is at least as popular as the radio in Andhra. There would have been few days since it started playing film music that his name didn't get mentioned on it. The versatile music director has given hundreds of hit songs in Telugu and in Tamil as well. And he's such a senior person in this field, the late Ghantasala and Ilayaraja once said that he was like a guru to them. He passed away at the age of 78. Some of his big hits are 'Muddabanti Puvvulo Moogakalla Usulu', 'Padutha Teeyaga Challaga' and 'Manusuna Manasai, Bratukuna Bratukai'.
Both the Telugu and the Tamil film industry have lost great icons beyond replacement. And in this program of Abhinandana titled 'Smrutyanjali', some top persons from film and media will speak about them. A Nageshwar Rao and Ramana Kumari, along with other artists, will present a musical night where hit songs from the movies composed and directed by them will be presented.
C Narayana Reddy will be chief guest on the occasion. Please contact 756-0629 for details.
