Beta Ho To Aisa, Paidi Laxmaiah would surely be saying. Not only has beta hamaara aisa kaam karega come true for him - the son was an IAS officer - beta still remembers him, several years after he's passed away, and keeps the name on many minds. If the ancient Indian traditions of annual rituals for the dead were intended primarily to make the progeny remember their ancestors at least once a year, Mr. Laxmaiah sure doesn't need any of them.
Paidi Laxmaiah, the father of retired IAS officer Dr P L Sanjeev Reddy, was chairman for the Srisailam Temple administration. A multifaceted person, Laxmaiah was an actor, writer, preacher, director, donor and poet. And on the event of his 98th birth anniversary, Sanjeev Reddy is organizing the Paidi Laxmaiah awards once again in cooperation with Rasamayi.
Rasamayi had set up a trust in Paidi Laxmaiah's name, and has been organizing these awards for the past 10 years. The awards are given to prominent personalities in the fields of literature, music, dance, theater and medicine, people who have done something special and have worked hard towards the improvement of their areas.
This year the awardees are M S Reddy (literature), K Vishwanath (director) and Padmasri K Subba Rao (medicine), and they will be honored with cash awards of Rs. 5,000, a memento and a shawl each. Vasi Reddy Sitadevi (author) will be presented with the Paidi Laxmamma (that's the name of the wife of Paidi Laxmaiah) award, with Rs. 5,000 in cash, on the same occasion.
To entertain the audience, Abhinandana, a Kuchipudi danseuse on the ICCR panel, will present a ballet in which Surya Astakam, Jayadeva Astapadi and Javali will be the main items.
Dr Akkineni Nageshwara Rao, Murali Mohan, N Siva Prasad and P L Sanjeev Reddy will preside over the function.
