Remember Donga Mogudu? Yandamuri's concept of janata saris might never happen, but here's something that's pretty close to bringing the weavers right to the customers. And the prices of the cheapest of these come pretty close to the magic figure of Yandamuri's protagonist.
The Industries and Commerce Department has inaugurated a four-week long APCO Sari Mela, offering a 10-30 percent discount (depending upon the product) to buyers. Saris exquisitely designed by handloom weavers will be displayed at this mela. The price of the saris ranges from Rs. 200 to Rs. 5,000 depending upon the brand and the quality of the material.
Some of the very famous varieties of saris displayed here are Dharmavaram, Narayanapeta, Gadwal, Pochampally and Venkatagiri along with specialties like Guntur zari and summer specials such as Uppada and the famous Rajamundry cotton saris.
Along with saris, dress materials, bed sheets, lungies, dhotis, towels and other cloth material are available at a 30% discount. About Rs. 50 lac worth stock is being displayed at this mela, and another Rs. 50 lac worth will be added by the 6th.
