Your kid will probably never be as un-selfconscious as he is when he's still in his pre-teens. And that is the best time to bring out any dormant artist in him. Here's one of the avenues.
The Siri Drawing And Oil Painting Institute was started in 1996 to train students in drawing and oil painting. Students between 5 and 55 years are trained - like Sheetal of the Institute says, the age of the person is not a bar to learn the art; it's the inquisitiveness to learn that enables one excel, with proper training to guide him/her.
This institute charges Rs. 500 for the 3-month course, with students being trained in landscapes, still life and portraits. Students are asked to draw directly on canvas, but those below the age of 14 are trained in sketching first and later allowed to draw on canvas.
Drawing is perhaps the first form of art that children are exposed to and show passion for. And drawing competitions are the best way to instill confidence in budding artists. And so Siri is organizing a drawing competition for children in the age group of 7-15. The topic for this competition is 'Landscape'.
Three prizes will be awarded to participants whose paintings are rated I, II and III by the judges. Certificates will also be distributed to the participants. The organizers will provide drawing sheets, but the required color material has to be brought by the participants. The applications can be obtained from this address by paying Rs. 30:
