One of the students of this lady is Alekhya. Shouldn't that speak volumes of her? Actually, it is more the other way round. It's part of the pedigree of Alekhya that she trained under Uma Rama Rao. And as the lady introduces a new set of students today along with a new production, there'll be many in the audience trying to spot next generation Alekhyas.
Lasya Priya is an institute founded in 1985 by Uma Rama Rao to impart knowledge in the theoretical and the practical aspects of Indian classical dance traditions. In a span of 16 years, this institution has produced several students to work for the promotion of this ancient art tradition in India and abroad either as teachers or as performing artists. Lasya Priya is also working hard towards the promotion of Indian spiritual and cultural heritage through multimedia making use of information technology.
In addition to the solo dance system, Lasya Priya has moved into Yakshaganas, dance dramas and dance features based on traditional, mythological and modern and contemporary themes to work to give a new dimension to the Indian dance system. And it is now all set to launch a new venture, "Ishana Samhitha", a Kuchipudi form, at 12pm today.
Students of Lasya Priya, Pallavi Kumar, M Rajani, Aparna Chandra, Veena Rama and D N Murthy, will perform this Kuchipudi ballet. Dr C Narayan Reddy will be the chief guest and Prof. N Gopi and J V Somayajulu will preside.
Please contact Uma Rama Rao at 330-7111 for further details.
