When Indira Gandhi said that the children of today are the citizens of tomorrow, she had her fundas right. The citizens of today already know too much to feel patriotic. We mean, when the country stands, in the mind, for a government and a bureaucracy very close to how they show it in the movies, it's difficult to feel any great fervor. Is it any wonder then that most I-Day celebrations are by kids?
This year the Andhra Balananda Sangham is celebrating the Independence Day a day in advance. This is because of the inauguration of a flyover near the Balananda Sangham by the Chief Minister on the 15th. Anticipating security problems and a heavy rush on the road, visitors to the Balananda Sangham will be stopped and will not be allowed to park their vehicles by police personnel. To avoid this, the Sangham will celebrate all cultural programs on the evening of the 14th itself. Only the flag hoisting will take place on the 15th in the morning.
Among the cultural events, around 25 tiny tots will present a Bharatanatyam ballet, followed by Carnatic music, Annamayya recitals and patriotic songs by 20 children. All children are under training at the Balananda Sangham, and are being given a chance to exhibit their talent in front of their parents.
M V Madhusudan, MD, Wilshire Technologies Software, will be the chief guest on the day. Please contact J V Kameshwari at 756-1443/755-1470 for further details.
