The Department of Culture and the renowned Kathak Kendra of New Delhi are jointly organizing a Kathak festival in memory of Guru Kundanlal Gangani (1926-84). Guru Gangani was one of the great exponents of Kathak, and gave numerous performances all over the country. He joined the Kathak Kendra at Delhi in 1970 as a teacher and continued there till his demise in 1984.
The dance recitals (three every evening) will begin at 6.30pm daily. There will also be interactive sessions and demonstrations by doyens like Sitara Devi, Rohini Bhate and Uma Sharma during the festival.
Pandit Birju Maharaj is expected to take part, along with other renowned personalities like Kishan Maharaj (the tabla maestro) and Kumudini Lakhia. Other artists are Mangala Bhatt, Sandeep Mallik, Anurag Verma, Sarveri Jamenis, Mala Sarma, Prashant Shah, Sanjay Joshi, Kanchan Maradan, Deepak Maharaj and Renni Jhaveri.
Talasani Srinivas Yadav, the Minister for Tourism & Culture, and Chandana Khan,
