Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad, together with the Embassy of Switzerland and ITC Hotel The Kakatiya, is presenting a Western classical music concert by accomplished Swiss musicians the Galatea String Quartet, on 12th February, at Hyder Mahal in ITC Hotel The Kakatiya.
This one-and-a-half-hour concert will feature celebrated musical compositions of Jean-Luc Darbellay, Frank Martin, Bela Bartok and Ludwig Van Beethoven, performed on the strings (violins, viola and a cello) by the Swiss Galatea String Quartet, which comprises Yuka Tsuboi and Sarah Kilchenmann on the violin, David Schneebeli on the viola and Julien Kilchenmann on the cello.
The young quartet draw their name from Galatea, made by Pygmalion, a sculpture from Greek mythology. Aphrodite revives Galatea with life, and the musicians do the same with the notes. The quartet hold great promise for the future, and have already won prestigious music awards in Europe. They have performed widely in Switzerland as well as in countries like Japan, Italy, Austria, France, Germany and Armenia.
The concert is being organised on the occasion of the 60th year jubilee celebration of Switzerland's treaty of friendship with India, and so the Swiss Embassy has invited them to a tour of India covering Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune, Kolkata and New Delhi.
The entry is by free passes available at the Goethe-Zentrum office, Hermitage Complex, Hillfort Road, Opp. AP Legislative Assembly. Please contact Goethe-Zentrum at 6652-6443/2324-1791 for further details.
