Hand-painted cloth has much the same charm as handlooms. They both have an undeniably earthy feel to them, and their beauty often lies in the little imperfections that nature bestows. A designer line from Delhi is bringing to the city a whole collection of clothes for women, all adorned with the imagination of a painter's eye.
An exhibition primarily of salwar-kameez and dress material, the collection will also have hip kurtis, and saris with some heavily painted pallus. A small selection of shawls will also be on display, although the season for them is almost past. It doesn't matter though, they double as stoles that can jazz up a plain outfit.
So if zardosi isn't your thing, and it's too early in the year for chikan work, then give this exhibition a once-over. Mass manufactured style doesn't even come close.
