The Sundarayya Vignana Kendram is hosting a unique musical evening called 'Dalit Drum' where 11 songs that narrate the tales of tyranny over dalits in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu will be presented.
Garth Hewitt, a human rights singer based in the United Kingdom; Paul Field, a music composer and film script writer; Arigalla James, a well-known known rangasthala (stage) artist; and Lelle Suresh and team will perform on the occasion. The program will narrate the experiences of Hewitt and Field who have traveled extensively in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in March 2001. 'Dalit Drum' is an album, and is a compilation of songs about the oppression faced by the dalits, their dreams and their hopes.
The same program will also be presented at the University of Hyderabad, Gachibowli, on September 12 at 2.00pm.
The group released the album in the United Kingdom, and received a good response. This was also presented at the world conference against racism at Durban last year.
