The A P Tourism Department and the Thai Tourism Department are jointly organizing a cultural exchange program where the performers of Thai cultural groups will present various traditional folk dances of Thai at different cultural venues for 3 days in the city. About 25 artists will take part in these programs.
Our country's most respected epic, the Ramayana, is well known in Thailand, too. The story and its importance are explained to children in Thai villages in the form of ballets even today. The Thai groups will present 'Mata Hanu' (a part of the Ramayana) in the form of a musical ballet. Another ballet called 'Mask', displaying Sri Rama's and his disciple Hanuman's characteristics, will also be staged.
A special item called 'Neyil Dance', representing the Thailand emperor's white elephant (which resembles our traditional Iravatham), will be performed. Some other entertaining programs like the display of traditional martial arts, the Serang Grabo dance and the Thiat Thiyung drum dance will also be presented during the occasion.
Day 1 will be at Ravindra Bharathi, and Shilpakala Vedika and Lalitha Kala Thoranam will host day 2 and day 3 respectively.
