Kalyani's been performing at the Kanaka Durga temple of Vijayawada for 13 years. Here then, finally, is what is truly the music of the gods.
Shilparamam, as part of its weekly program of classical music, is organising a Carnatic vocal recital by D Kalyani, on 19th November. Kalyani, along with her daughter Lakshmi Bhavaja and disciple Aishwarya Dharani, will recite a couple of Annamacharya and Ramadas keertanas, starting with a Muthuswamy Dikshitar kriti Mahaganapathim, followed by Chakkani Talliki Changubhala, Jagadapa Janavulu Dadara, Tandanana Ahi Tandananapure, Paluke Bangaramayena, and, finally Paahi Rama Prabho. Kalyani and her group will be accompanied by Dhoolipala Srinivas on the violin and Narayana Kumar on the mridangam.
Kalyani runs an institute of music, Suryaprabha Sangeeta Academy, in Moti Nagar, named in memory of her mother, from whom she learnt music. The institute was started in 2000, and has about 40 students. She has performed at various sacred places of the state in Tirupati (TTD), Srisailam and Yadagirigutta, the Godavari and Krishna Pushkaras, and at Vijayawada. She's been performing at the Kanaka Durga Devasthanam, Vijayawada, for the last 13 years.
