At 16, Smitha is already on a floor where the world can see her. But then, this elevator is being manned by Karaikudi Mani and Rajeswari Sainath. And now she's doing the elevator proud.
Srutilaya Kendra Natyalaya is a dance institute founded by Karaikudi Mani (the famous mridangam maestro), and here he trains students along with his niece Rajeshwari Sainath in various forms of classical dance.
Sainath, a versatile danseuse of Bharatanatyam, has given numerous performances in India and overseas. She is the disciple of Indira Rajan, and has undergone advanced training in 'Layam' and has a dancing experience of about 27 years. She now plays the key role in organizing shows for her students.
One such event is taking place today, and will have the performance of her disciple Smitha Madhav. Smitha is a young artiste of 16, and has been learning Bharatanatyam since she was 8. She has given numerous performances on stage, and is one of the senior artists at Srutilaya Kendra.
She will perform Ganapatien composed by Kavi Kannan as her opening item, followed by Varnam, Aadum Mayilmel Varuvan (Tamil) composed by Madhurai Sethuraman. This will be followed by a Kannada item Krishna Nee Began (Krishna leela), a composition of Purandhara Das. Lastly, a Telugu item Javali Cheli Nenetlu will be performed. Karaikudi Mani has himself composed the Jatis for all these items.
