The Book
Pilgrimage is an activity common to many religions. The faithful set off on long journeys to particular places with the hope of gaining virtue and merit. What distinguishes Mount Kailash is that for many people of different faiths in south and central Asia, it is the holiest mountain on earth. Moreover, even for those with no specific faith, the mountain's physical form and color make it a natural symbol of purity.
In "A Journey to the Heavens", Anju Poddar shares her own experience of making a pilgrimage to Mount Kailash in Western Tibet. Besides narrating her experiences, she includes practical advice to any who are inspired enough to follow in her footsteps.
Chandana Khan, Secretary, the Department of Tourism, will be chief guest on the occasion. Please contact Naresh Sharma, Crossword, at 776-3239/42 for further details.
