Rahul Mitra will display his paintings and graphic works for a 10-day period at Gallery Hasta. Mitra is displaying about 30 paintings, of which 20 are acrylic/oil artwork paintings on canvas, 4 are linocuts and the remaining are works on paper (basically watercolours on paper). His canvas depicts cities like Houston & Hyderabad, and showcases people and their culture. The paintings displayed range between Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 60,000.
Mitra currently lives in Houston, Texas, USA. He is coming to Hyderabad on 19th to inaugurate this exhibition, and will return to Houston on the 25th of August. Nagesh Kukunoor will introduce the artist on the 20th.
Rahul Mitra is an artist, scientist, writer and entrepreneur. He was born in Hyderabad in 1967. He holds a Ph D in biochemistry and molecular biology. His art has been commissioned, exhibited, and is in several private collections in USA and UK.
What Mitra likes most are acrylics, etching and drawing. When he was just 3, he started filling up the walls with sketches. While he started learning art, his knowledge in art grew more due to observation and analysis of other artists' works. His liking has always been more for contemporary art. He feels that there is a lexicon of knowledge available through several avenues in this information age. He has visited great museums of art in India, Germany, Italy and America to broaden his horizons. He has also interacted with several artists and masters of his domain.
