If it's called "Know Your Country", you can't help thinking that maybe they are suffering from a time warp. Is it the country's past or the present that is worth knowing for a kid? How many headlines in a month make you feel proud to be Indian? Thankfully, there's no subject called Current Affairs at school, and quizzes are restricted mostly to history and the rest of the world, so maybe the kids are still safe. If you keep them away from the newspapers, that is.
Samhita School of Jubilee Hills is conducting a quiz competition titled "Know Your Country", and also a singing competition for students of standards 1 and 2 today. The contest consists of an elimination round and a written test. The semi-finals and the final competition will comprise of visual rounds in addition to normal question-answer rounds. The questions posed here will be on the states of India, national leaders, festivals, monuments and so on. Each team should consist of two participants from the same class. Each school can send in any number of teams.
As for the patriotic songs competition, songs can be sung in any Indian language, but the duration given will be only 2-3 minutes. No musical accompaniments will be allowed.
The last date for receiving applications for the competitions is the 7th of August. The entry fee is Rs. 20 per participant. Please contact Samhita at 98481-86828/311-1570/354-7941 for further details.
