Yudhisthira And Draupadi - An English Play By Salim Ghouse: Events in Hyderabad

REVIEW FOR YUDHISTHIRA AND DRAUPADI -...

The Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation, in association ITC Kakatiya Sheraton and the Karvy group, is presenting a contemporary play from the Mahabharatha, Yudhisthira & Draupadi, on 24th November, at the ITC Kakatiya Sheraton.

Adapted, designed and directed by Salim Ghouse, Yudhishtar & Draupadi is a performance that has been structured as a 'parallel' dialogue- transcending time and space between the two protagonists, Yudhishtar and Draupadi from Mahabharata. This 'untold love story' examines the travails of their turbulent past.

The deaths of Bhim, Arjun, Nakul and Sahdev at the hands of the Yaksha, bring to the fore the ephemeral quality of existence. Yudhishtar has no choice but to engage with the Lord of Death; and reaffirm afresh, the underlying 'principles of life.' The finale is the reintegration of the 'yin & yang', after 'the dark night of the soul.'

Salim Ghouse as Yudhishtar and his wife Anita Ghouse as Draupadi play the two central characters. The original book which is in four parts has been written by Pawan Verma.

Salim Ghouse is a graduate from the Film and TV Institute of India, Pune in Acting and World Cinema. He has an experience of forty years in theater. He has been the director of Phoenix Players since 1984 and has created several original and innovative theater productions. He has acted in television films and serials and also in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films, such as Mani Ratnam
