On the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, Shilparamam is presenting an evening of Punjabi folk songs and dances by Preeth Basanth, this Saturday. Basanth and his team of 11 musicians, singers and dancers will sing some devotional songs praising the Guru, and ignite the stage with some bhangra.
The program starts with devotional songs and Punjabi countryside folk songs, by Basanth, Ajay, Shamsher Singh and Gurvinder Singh, followed by bhangra by Kuljeet Singh, Jasbir Singh, Omprakash and Ankush Naik. The music will be provided Krishna, Mohan Kumar, Navin Kumar and Swamy.
Preeth Basanth is from Ropar district of Punjab, and has made Hyderabad his home since the last 17 years. He came to Hyderabad in 1992, and has worked at the Air Force Station, Hakimpet, for two years. He spreads the culture of Punjab among the Punjabis and other cultures of Hyderabad. He has been learning Punjabi music since his school days from his Guru Kuldeep Manik.
Basanth and his troupe have played at many venues and occasions, such as at the Afro-Asian Games, the National Games, the Dept. of Culture events, festivals and marriages. He is the President of Punjabi Kalamanch, a cultural association, established by G S Kairon, at Alwal. Through this association, he organises various cultural programs in the city.
