The 4-day Elite Group B Ranji Trophy league match between Hyderabad and Baroda will take place at the Visakha Cricket Ground of the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal, from 23rd to 26th November.
Hyderabad is being captained by Arjun Yadav, in the absence of V V S Laxman. The team is playing the 3rd match of its league, having drawn the first two encounters, which fetched it four points. In the first match against Bengal, played in Kolkata from 4th to 7th November, they had conceded a first innings lead and could get only one point. In the next match played at Mohali against Punjab, from 15th to 18th November, because of a slender first innings lead, it could pocket three points.
The batsmen fared miserably against Bengal, but could get their act together in the match against Punjab. Experienced Daniel Manohar scored a century in the first innings and chipped in with two wickets, too. Ravi Teja was outstanding with a half century in the first innings and a century in the second. Debutant Ashwin Yadav impressed with a total of five wickets, but it was the reliable spinner Pragyan Ojha who bagged a total of nine wickets in the two matches.
Baroda is headed by the experienced skipper Connor Williams. They are playing the second match of their league, but have six points from their previous outing, having thrashed Bengal with an innings victory for maximum points. In the first match against Bengal from 15th to 18th November, allrounder Yousuf Pathan was in devastating form, having scored a big century and also coming good with the ball with five wickets. R K Solanki was the other centurion of that match. With the inclusion of Irfan Pathan now, the team looks strong.
The pitch at the Visakha Cricket Ground will assist the bowlers to a large extent, and a result is highly possible. The match starts at 9:00am everyday, and entry is free. Please contact the Hyderabad Cricket Association at 2790-5676 for further details.
