Vocal By Ranjani & Gayatri: Events in Hyderabad

Kalasagaram is organising its 41st Annual Cultural Festival of Music, Dance & Drama, from 22nd Nov '08 to 30th Nov '08.

On the 7th day of the festival, i.e. on 28th Nov '08, Ranjani and Gayatri will be performing a Carnatic vocal recital. They will be accompained by Charulatha Ramanujam on the violin, Delhi Sriram on the mridangam and Trichy Murali on the ghatam. The performance will start at 6:30 pm.

Ranjani & Gayatri are one of the few who have achieved enduring success in both violin and vocal music. They learnt violin at the Shanmukhananda Sangeetha Vidyalaya, Mumbai, from Sangeetha Bhooshanam Prof. T S Krishnaswamy. They had their intial training in vocal music from their mother, Meenakshi Balasubramaniam, and later, came under the tutelage of Padma Bhushan Sangeetha Kala Acharya P S Narayanaswamy. They were recipents of the Govt. of India scholarship at the age of 10, and winners of the 1st prize in the All India Radio Competitions in violin. The sisters have the disctinction of being given 'A' Grade by AIR and DD in violin as well as in vocal.

They have won several awards, including the Kalki Memorial Award from the Kalki Trust, and the prestigious National Eminence Award from Sri Shanmukhananda Sabha, Mumbai. They also won the Outstanding Violinists Award for 4 consecutive years, from 1994 to 1998, from the Music Academy, Chennai.

The two have performed all over India, and also in Singapore, Malaysia, USA, Canada, Australia and the Middle East. Their music has recoieved accolades from the audiences worldwide, and high praise from discerning critics. They have to their credit many albums, both violin and vocal.

Entry is by tickets, which can be booked in advance. Season passes for the 9-day festival are available for Rs. 400, Rs. 300 & Rs. 200, and daily passes are priced at Rs. 100, Rs. 50 & Rs. 25. Tickets are available at Keyes High School, everyday, from 5:30pm.
