Kalasagaram is organising its 41st Annual Cultural Festival of Music, Dance & Drama, from 22nd Nov to 30th Nov.
On 6th day of the festival, i.e., on 27th Nov '08, Sikkil C Gurucharan will be performing a Carnatic vocal recital. He will be accompained by V Sanjeev on the violin, Mannarkoil J Balaji on the mridangam, K Shyam Kumar on the kanjira and B Janardhan on the ghatam. The performance will start at 6:30 pm.
Sikkil Gurucharan is the grandson of the famous flute Vidushis, the Sikkil Sisters, and nephew of flautist Sikkil Mala Chandrasekhar. He is a disciple of Vaigal S Gnanaskandan (a disciple of Dr Semmangudi, and Retd. Producer, AIR, Chennai). He has performed all over the country, and in the USA and in Singapore. He is an 'A' Grade artist of the All India Radio, and of Doordarshan.
Gurucharan has won numerous awards and prizes, including Yuva Kala Bharathi Award in 2005, Kalki Memorial Award in 2005, Swarna Venkateswara Dikshitar Award at the Music Academy Conference in 2002, 2003 & 2004, and Maharajapuram Viswanath Iyer Award from Krishna Gana Sabha in 2002.
Entry is by tickets, which can be booked in advance. Season passes for the 9-day festival are available for Rs. 400, Rs. 300 & Rs. 200, and daily passes are priced at Rs. 100, Rs. 50 & Rs. 25. Tickets are available at Keyes High School, everyday, from 5:30pm.
