REVIEW FOR VOCAL BY GAYATHRI VENKATARAGHAVAN

Kalasagaram is organising its 41st Annual Cultural Festival of Music, Dance & Drama. The festival starts from 22nd Nov '08 and ends on 30th Nov '08.

On 4th day of the festival, i.e. on 25th Nov, Gayatri Venkataraghavan will be performing a Carnatic vocal recital. She will be accompained by Dwaram Satyanarayana Rao on the violin, S Arvind on the mridangam, and Nemani Somayajulu on the ghatam.

Gayatri Venkataraghavan learnt music from Rajalakshmi and Padma Veraraghavan (a disciple of the Late Palghat K V Narayanaswamy). She had further training under Rukmini Ramani, V Subramaniam and Lakshmi Natarajan, and took an advanced training under A Sundaresan. She is an 'A' Grade Artist of AIR, and has performed for AIR & Doordarshan several times.

Gayatri has many awards to her credit, including the D K Pattammal Award in 2001, the Kalki Krishnamurthy Award in 2003 and the T T Rangaswamy Award in 2006. She has performed at the Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival in 2005, and also at Toronto in Canada and in the SIFA Annual Festival at Singapore in 2007. Gayatri is one of the rising stars in the Carnatic music firmament.

Entry is by tickets, which can be booked in advance. Season passes for the 9-day festival are available for Rs. 400, Rs. 300 & Rs. 200, and daily passes are priced at Rs. 100, Rs. 50 & Rs. 25. Tickets are available at Keyes High School, everyday, from 5:30pm.
