The only thing better than an idea whose time has come is being the one whose idea it is, and for these two women, it is the ultimate dream of an artist come true - creating a new pattern and seeing it cause a rage.
Meera Sivaramakrishnan and Usha Rajagopalan belong to different schools of learning. Both have accompanied all top grade artists and have established a name for themselves in their own styles. Their getting together for duets is generally considered the beginning of a new genre in the field of Carnatic music.
They put their "duo-fusion" onto stage on the 5th of March 1998 in Chennai, and it turned out to be a grand success. They have steadily gained the attention of music lovers, and today have to their credit over 300 concerts in a short span of three years. Very recently, in September 2001, they were featured in the Sangeet Nataka Academy's Sangeetotsav in Delhi.
They will be accompanied today by Thanjavur Subramaniam on the mridangam and Padukottai Ramachandran on the ghatam. Please contact 351-6265/323-5149 for further details.
