Jef Costello, a hired assassin, has to kill the owner of a nightclub. Jef does it, but Valerie, a pianist, sees him. Jef has alibi thanks to his mistress Jane. Without proof, the police inspector has to release him. When Jef comes to be paid, he is wounded at the arm. Another gangster proposes him to kill Valerie for a new amount of money. Jef makes the gesture of slaughtering her, but his gun is empty. The police reach in time there, and Jef is killed.
The Samourai is an excellent detective film where the characters are more romantic than real. Alain Delon is the only one who could play this lonely character. In fact, the presence of Delon is enough - even if he seems not to play, here is a star.
