REVIEW FOR THE CIRCLE

The movie gives us an insight into the contemporary life of urban Iranian society. The film is is a collection of stories, of marginalised and oppressed women. Three women escape from prison, and their need for money leads them to take desperate measures.Their efforts to adjust back into society without male protection, or adequate identification papers, forms the central theme of the movie.

One women gives birth to a baby girl but little does she know that she and her baby are already unwanted. The second woman is unmarried, seeking an abortion. She is rejected by her parents and threatened by her brothers. The third is a prostitute trying to settle back into life.

Their plights are often too tragically similar. Their world is one of age-old inequalities. But this stifling world cannot extinguish the spirit, strength and courage of this circle of women.
