Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad is presenting an expert talk on the subject of CRISTA, a German Space Mission, by Dr. Dirk Offermann, on 13th December, at the association's office premises in Hermitage Complex, Opp. Legislative Assembly.
Professor Offermann studied physics at the University of Bonn, Gemany. He retired as Professor of Physics at the University of Wuppertal, Germany, and has worked on upper atmospheric research by rocket-borne mass spectrometers. Currently he is working on a project titled Temperature Variations On Extreme Time Scales 2005-07, supported by the DFG, the German Research Foundation.
In his talk, Prof. Offerman will throw light on the objectives of mission CRISTA, which were to determine the small-scale structures in the upper atmosphere that had been, so far, suspected to exist but not really known. The CRISTA instrument is an advanced infrared telescope specifically developed for this purpose.
The talk will cover the experiment as well as the two flights on board the NASA Space Shuttle. This phenomenon has not been observed before, and will also be discussed in some detail.
The talk is open for everybody. Please contact 6652-6443/2324-1791 for further details.
