To commemorate the birth anniversary of the great saint Thyagaraja, the Pallavi Academy Of Fine Arts is organising a Pancharatna Keertana Goshthi Gaanam today, in which 50 Carnatic vocalists will take part, at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha at Chikkadpally.
Pancharatna Goshthi Gaanam is a musical essemble of Carnatic vocalists and musicians, who sing Thyagaraja keertanas from his Pancharatna collection. The recital will be sung by a large group of musicians. In Chennai on this day, leading musicians and vocalists form a huge group, sometimes numbering more than 500, to sing these keertanas.
Today, 50 upcoming vocalists will participate in this marathon 8-hour recital: Hema, Sameera, Bhuvana Krithi, Keertana, Vaishnavi, Vishal, Arathi, Malathi Ganesh, Bharadwaj, Lahiri, Neeraja, Rajini, Sweta, Subhadra, Nityasri, Siddharth, Aditi, Adarsh, Aparna, Meena, Varshaprada, Lasya, Harshita, Mani Mekhala, Sagarika, Sruthi, Sravya, Samhita, Vandita, Kalpana, Rajyalakshmi, Anjani, Indira, Tayaru, Peratti Apoorva, Vasantha, Rhythima, Gomathi, Mythili, Niyati, Yashasvi, Manasi, Prerana, Uttam, Varun, Apoorva, Karteek and Sreevaran.
The Pallavi Academy Of Fine Arts was founded in 1987 by Dr S K Venkatachary and his sister P B Krishna Bharati. Dr Venkatachary is a renowned classical singer and director of the institute, while Krishna Bharati is the Principal of the institute and a Kuchipudi dancer. The institute, in addition to Carnatic vocal, also teaches Kuchipudi dance and instrumental music.
