If Kondapalli and toys belong in the same entry in the thesaurus for you, here is a must-visit exhibition this Sankranti.
The Lepakshi Handicrafts showroom at RTC X Roads is organising Sankranthi Bommalakoluvu, an exhibition of handicrafts, handlooms and Kondapalli toys, from 6th to 13th January. As the name itself suggests, it is dominated by the toys from Kondapalli. It is a small exhibition with just about 10 stalls.
The toys include Dashavatara sets, huts, palm trees, chariots with Lord Krishna and Arjuna, Lord Hanuman showing Rama and Sita in his heart, and elephant ambaris. The highlight of the exhibition is a 4-feet wooden toy of an elephant with an ambari seated on it, costing Rs. 2,400.
In addition to the toys, there are stalls displaying a few dokra casting art panels, pen stands, coaster sets and table mats. Cane baskets from Kashmir are worth a buy, ranging from Rs. 27 to Rs. 160. These baskets can be used to showcase fruits on a dining table, serve cakes and rotis, and store flowers.
