The best possible performer in the Uppalapati Ankaiah Memorial concerts would be... well, Uppalapati Ankaiah himself. Here, however, is the second best.
To commemorate the birth anniversary of the great saint Thyagaraja, Pallavi Academy Of Fine Arts is organising a Carnatic vocal recital by Voruganti Anandamohan today, at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha in Chikkadpally. Anandamohan will be supported by Pavan Singh on the violin and Vara Prasad on the mridangam.
Anandamohan is a disciple of composer late Uppalapati Ankaiah. He has performed at various concerts all over Andhra Pradesh. He is a senior vocalist who also teaches music to various students. He is the founder of a cultural association called Sangeeta Ksheerasagaram through which he organises the Uppalapati Ankaiah Memorial classical music concerts every month at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha, in memory of his guru.
The Pallavi Academy Of Fine Arts was founded in 1987 by Dr S K Venkatachary and his sister P B Krishna Bharati. Dr Venkatachary is a renowned classical singer and director of the institute, while Krishna Bharati is the Principal of the institute and a Kuchipudi dancer. The institute, in addition to Carnatic vocal, also teaches Kuchipudi dance and instrumental music.
