Some top-level hockey is on display this week at Begumpet. Some would say that after Gill came in any hockey is top-level hockey, but let's be positive. Which also means, he's 80+ and he will die soon.
The State Training Centres (STC), in association with the Sports Authority Of India (SAI), are organising the South Zone Inter-SAI Hostel Senior Hockey Tournament from 3rd to 6th July, at the SAAP Hockey Stadium in Begumpet. 8 south-zone teams are participating in this tournament.
The participating teams are divided into two groups. Group A has STC Bangalore, STC Myladuthurai, STC Trichur and STC Pondicherry, while Group B has STC Secunderabad, STC Eluru, STC Kollam and STC Chennai.
The tournament will be played in league-cum-knockout basis. The group matches will be played in the league format, with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the semifinals. The semifinals and finals will be played in the knockout format.
The State Training Centres conduct annual summer camps for junior-level as well as senior-level hockey players, and this tournament is part of their training programs. These tournaments will be held in different places of South India to guage the competitive spirit of the trainers.
Trophies will be given to the winners, and participation certificates will be given to all the participants. The winning team directly qualifies to take part in the All India Inter-SAI Hostel Senior Hockey Championships to be held during this year.
