The Sports Coaching Foundation is organising the Day-Night Inter-Slum Junior Hockey Tournament, at the SCF grounds in Masab Tank, from 6th to 8th July. Eight hockey clubs are participating in this knockout tournament. The clubs are Novbharath Hockey Club, Independent Hockey Club, BYSWA Hockey Club, Red Hills Hockey Club, AC Guards Hockey Club, Chintalbasti Playground Hockey Club, BYSWA Hockey Club - Blues, and Shaikpet Hockey Club.
The matches will start at 3:30pm, and the format is knockout, with the 1st team playing the 2nd, the 3rd team playing the 4th, the 5th playing the 6th and the 7th playing the 8th. The winners of these matches will play the semifinals on 7th July, and the subsequent winners play the final on 8th July.
Each match lasts 30 minutes, divided into two halves of 15 minutes with a 5-minute break in between. The winners and the runners-up will be given trophies.
The Sports Coaching Foundation has been organising this tournament for the last 4 years, providing an opportunity to the poor children of slum areas to display their talent. There is no entry or registration fee.
Sports Coaching Foundation (SCF) is the brain-child of K Sai Baba, a former Ranji trophy cricket player. He also represented Andhra Pradesh in canoeing. A qualified NIS coach, he worked for the Syndicate Bank for nearly two decades.
SCF is voluntary non-profit self-funding sports organisation which works for the benefit of children, especially street and slum children. It conducts 26 events/tournaments round the year, out of which 24 events are for children, organised free of cost. It also provides coaching for these children. To fund these free projects, it raises funds from corporates by staging corporate cups.
