"Life According to Agfa" is the story of Leora and Dalia, the two young Tel-Avivian
women partners who own and run a successful typical Tel-Avivian pub. Daila,
a divorcee with one daughter, has a lover Eli, a married man who suffers from
cancer but refuses treatment in order to prevent any affront to his self-pride
and dignity.
Leora, unmarried, also has a lover, Benny, a police commissioner and also a
bachelor. He shares an apartment with her but sleeps indiscriminately with any
girl who may cross his path any place and any time.
Throughout the film we encounter moments and situations accentuated by black
and white depictions that are taken by Leora, a photographer by profession,
and that cut through the body of the film every once in a while for a few seconds
systematically, freezing elements worthy of emphasis (and hence the film's title).
Assi Dayan began his career as an actor, playing principal roles in such films
as John Huston's A Walk With Love And Death (1969) and Jules Dassin's Promise
At Dawn (1970). He went on to establish himself as a columnist, novelist
and screenwriter.
