Remember thokkudubilla? Okay - know thokkudubilla? That, bommalakuluvu, Sankranthi Lakshmi and more. Which other place would really bring AP home to you for Pongal?
Shilparamam is gearing up for the Pongal festival with the venue dressed up in rural activities and a host of traditional competitions for men, women and children. Men can compete in goli (marbles), bongaram (tops) and kite-flying events, while ladies can participate in thokkudubilla (yes, in Hyderabad!), tug-of-war, rangoli and bommalakuluvu.
Children have fancy dress competitions, but the theme is limited only to Haridas and Sankranthi Lakshmi. Anyone wishing to participate in any of the competitions, needs to register one day in advance. There is, however, no registration fee. The competitions will be held from 13th to 16th January, with the preliminaries from 13th to 15th, and the finals, along with prize distribution, on 16th January.
The lawns of Shilparamam will be abuzz with various rural activities like gangireddu aatalu, Haridas sankeertanas, Bommalakoluvus, Sankranthi Lakshmi Sandadi, Tokkudu Vuyyala (wooden plank swing), tradition and mouth-watering Andhra recepies. One can have a traditional lunch for just Rs. 50 in the afternoon, with some of the traditional recepies served on a banana leaf.
For further details, please contact the venue at 2310-0455.
