Doing your home up need not always be expensive. Okay, it is always expensive, but at least it can be tasteful. Here's an interesting dekko.
The Social, Educational and Vocational Association of Raichur is organising an exhibition of handicrafts and handlooms called Seva Shilpmela 2007, at YMCA Secunderabad, from 15th to 24th January. Artisans from Raichur, Belgaum, Kolhapur and Mysore are exhibiting their works in this exhibition.
There are about 16 stalls exhibiting eco-friendly handloom clothes, kalamkari paintings, lampshades, key chains, counch (shank), sofa covers, and leather purses and bags. In the handloom stall, ladies tops and salwar-kurtas are available in an array of colors and prices. The lampshades with kalamkari paintings and in different shapes are capable of attracting many handicraft enthusiasts.
Marble look-alike Shola wall-hangings are another attraction of the exhibition. Shola is a white wood found in West Bengal, Assam and Bangladesh which, when carved into figures or statues, looks almost like marble. Lacquer toys too are worth a look.
There is no entry ticket. For further details, please contact the venue at 2780-1936.
