Perhaps no Indian ever grows up without his parents calling him a 100% tribal several times. Here are 800 people for whom that would be a compliment.
For the upliftment of tribals, the Girijan Welfare Department of the Government of Andhra Pradesh is organising a week-long Girijan Utsav at Shilparamam from 10th to 16th January. The utsav houses 120 stalls containing forest and agricultural products of tribals in agency areas from various districts of the state. The produce includes raw honey, medicinal herbs, shikakai, cashews, bamboo rice, dried amla, coffee seeds, brooms and band-woven mats, as also many other forest products.
800 girijans from 35 different tribe sects are coming from all over the state. The government has arranged for accommodation, transportation, food and the stalls, all free of cost. Some huts built by the girijans themselves have been installed by Shilparamam, in which they live. Visitors can also have a look at these huts and know about the lifestyles of these tribals.
Tribal dances of Araku, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Khammam, Adilabad, Nalgonda, Nellore, Kurnool and Warangal will be performed every day from 4:00pm. The details of the performances are given below:
