A qawwali at the Chowmohalla Palace was once the exclusive preserve of the Nizams and their courtiers. Here's how to get transported into that era!
Chowmohalla Palace is organising the Chowmohalla Music Festival from 23rd to 29th December. Eminent artistes like Dr L Subramaniam, Kavita Subramaniam, Pandit Birju Maharaj, Niazi Brothers of Pakistan, Devi Ramana Murthy, Indira Naik, and Ghulam Ali will be performing in this festival.
Today, the 3rd day, the Niazi Brothers of Pakistan will be performing a qawwali. The Niazi Brothers - Abdullah Manzoor Niazi Qawwal and Makhmoor Ahmed Niazi Qawwal - belong to a family of the Delhi Gharana. They learnt the art of Qawwali from their father Haji Manzoor Ahmed Khan Niazi. They are the direct descendants of the 9-century old lineage of the qawwal tradition that their ancestors have been serving since the period of the last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar.
The Niazi Brothers have visited several countries like Africa, England, Norway, Denmark, USA, Sweden, Canada, Middle East, Far-East, Bangladesh and India, showcasing their talents. They have been felicitated and honored in every country they have performed.
The entry to the concert is free, but is by invitations only. The invitations are available on 2452-2032.
