A full length documentary on life and work of Santharam in English
This documentary attempts to encapsulate the late Dr V Shantaram's amazing career of over 70 years. Using clips from well-preserved negatives of his very first "talkie" in 1932 to those from his ultimate output, the documentary provides glimpses into his work. It looks at his many pioneering activities and many of his 34 "firsts" that have helped consolidate the Indian film industry's technological and artistic foundations.
"Portrait of A Pioneer" attempts to throw light on the many gifts, the priceless legacy and the visionary approach to cinema of the late Dr V Shantaram who, the late Satyajit Ray put it so succulently and aptly, was 'the only complete filmmaker in India'.
