Older songs re-mixed and re-fed to the general masses. What's new? Welcome to the current trend of the music industry. But here comes the twist. Kishore Kumar, Mohd Rafi by a Frenchman? Mon Dieu! Hail the age of globalization because it truly is here. In what promises to be surely one of the firsts, Henri Pascal is all set to enthrall audiences by his re-interpretation of mainstream Hindi cinema, in Hindi and Tamil.
A person who has listened to more than 2,000 songs from the 50's onwards is sure someone to reckon with (you and me not counted, this is our birthright after all). He has built a selection of 20 songs from among the all-time great hits of India and will be performing from amongst them. These songs have been re-recorded with a full orchestra at Bombay and provided with the 'French Touch' by a French sound director.
So here is a chance for all those who are in a retro mood, or those who want to see if you can figure out the accent effect, to be carried away by music which is surely going to reawaken memories. Or put you off to sleep depending on which side of the age limit you are.
To a man calling himself an ambassador of Indian music in France, and spending hours trying to master the Hindi and Tamil languages...Bonne Chance! And to the ever-increasing reach of Bollywood, making a convert or an enemy out of whoever pauses to listen...Cheers!
