The Bhairavi Sangeet Academy is organising a 3-day music workshop on Carnatic vocal music by Dr. Radha Venkatachalam, at Kala Subbarao Kala Vedika, from 21st to 23rd May. Dr Radha will explain the significance of certain rare ragas of Carnatic music which are hardly used nowadays in music concerts, including Gaurimanohari, Sarasangi, Sensuruti, Bhavapriya and Kamavardhani.
Dr. Venkatachalam is a disciple of musical genius Professor T R Subramanian, the most respected and renowned guru for countless artistes, young and old. She is faculty at the music department of the Delhi University. Even though she rarely sings at concerts, she conducts various workshops of music on various unknown ragas, at various parts of the country.
Bhairavi Sangeet Academy was established more than 7 years back by Vizarsu Balasubrahmanyam, a sangeet vidhwan. Balasubrahmanyam is a double Ph D - from the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Miraj, and from the University of Delhi. Many of his students have won many prizes at national level music competitions. He has composed a number of Varnams, Krithis, Javalis and Tillanas, besides music for Annamayya keertanas.
