Mecharena 07 - A National Level Technical Symposium: Events in Hyderabad

Some people say OU produces the best mechanical engineers. This is how they know.

Mecharena 2007 is a national-level technical symposium conducted by Department of Mechanical Engineering, University College of Engineering, Osmania University, which will be held this year from 17th to 19th February. Mecharena is organised by the mechanical students annually showcasing the farsightedness, commitment and creativity of the students of the mechanical engineering department.

The 3-day fest will feature various engineering colleges of the city, state and country, coming up with innovative models and presentations that showcase the talents of the mechanical engineers of tomorrow. A load of technical events for the three days is scheduled as under:

Formula One
A racing Grand Prix of robots. The racers are robots that are built and controlled by the competitors.

Snaffer
Snaffle or rob the treasure blocks, which are small 3-D objects of various geometric models - viz. hemisphere, cylinder, prism, cuboid etc. These objects are placed on various positions on the arena, and have to be stolen (or grabbed) by the robot and sold in markets (or baskets). Each robot can place the treasure block in any market of its choice, which will fetch money accordingly.

Dexter's Lab
It is a contest where teams compete to race against the clock to build a machine to rock. You are told what to build and the task to perform. You have upto 150min to construct the machine from the odds and ends. The teams then pit their machines against each other for the crowning glory.

Techzibit
Thoughts remain thoughts unless given a shape. This is where the engineering mind takes over. Participants can showcase their innovative design/models at the exhibition stalls.

Tech U Script
A technical paper competition, designed to enhance one's skills in technical writing and theoretical research. Topics are Design And Control Engineering, Thermal And Fluid Engineering and Production And Management.

Autospy
Time to become a mechanical surgeon, disecting your patient, a Maruti Swift. Participants are required to remove the bonnet and outer coverings of the car, explain the various functions, and then assemble back.

Dalal Street
An interactive stock market game to educate first-timers in understanding how the stock market functions - minus the risk of losing investment.

Sculpt The Fest
Click photos that are unique or unusual, essentially capturing the essence of Mecharena. Include caption text and other details, and win prizes.

Derek O Brain
A general quiz that will cover a wide canvas of subjects from Indian politics to commercial brands, technical fundas to fundamentals, from Indra Nooyi to Lakshmi Mittal, from creators of history to architects of science, from chemical reactions to mathematical corollaries.

Gamerzz Den
A spot event where participants are given specific games and pitted against each other.

Guest Lecture
The guest is celebrity writer and novelist Yandamoori Veerendranath.

One Great Day
Write about your experiences, topic no bar. The best review wins.

Drishti
A poster presentation on topics including Nanotechnology, Latest Design Advances, Engg. Disasters, Non-Conventional Energy Sources and Cryogenics, or any other innovative theme related to mechanical engineering.
