REVIEW FOR PAINTINGS EXHIBITION BY PANDU

After becoming a demigod of animation, Pandu Masanam went looking for new challenges. The adulation has only gotten better.

Lakshana Art Gallery is hosting an exhibition of paintings by Pandu Masanam from 12th February. The collection containing 39 acrylic and oil paintings done on canvas, is on display till 21st February. The paintings stand apart in the sense that Masanam has used an innovative technique of embossed lines all over the canvas on which he's used two colors, the principal color being black. This effect that gives a natural rugged look to the paintings, has received appreciation from various art critics.

Born in Vinukonda, Pandu Masanam grew up in an atmosphere of rich Indian culture surrounded by glorious temples filled with sculpture and exquisite carvings of South-Indian tradition. Him being a highly religious and sentimental person, some of his paintings have a mythological touch. Potluri Hanumantha Rao - one of the great masters of Telugu art - initiated him into oriental wash drawing and painting. Under his guidance and meticulous training, Pandu's views on art, the line, color, and his very vision were shaped, and his skills of drawing and sketching got tempered.

Soon after his graduation in fine arts from JNTU, Masanam found his hand in cartooning and illustration. He worked for Telugu newspapers and magazines and earned a reputation in decorative illustrations for children's publications. His skill in animating forms stabilized his career, and he soon excelled among the few who dared to dabble in animation in 2D.

Portrait and other works resulted in good experience and fame in oil and water colors. The artists in the city and the exhibitions around inspired him to search for better expression in painting - especially in traditional and conventional forms.

The present exhibition is themed Song Of The Village, and, as the name suggests, it reflects entirely on the rural lifestyles. For further details, please contact the art gallery at 2337-8033.

Pandu Masanam will definitely get his due recognition as a gifted artist. His knowledge of hindu mythology along with his great skill as an artist will certainly get him fame!.
