With the possible exception of Britney Spears, almost everything that needs to be kept inside a home is available here. Sure enough, People's Plaza is looking colorful this week.
The National Handicrafts And Handloom Expo 2007 - an exhibition cum sale - is being organised at the People's Plaza grounds, by Adarsh Janatha Shikshan Sanstha of New Delhi, with support from the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. 500 artisans from various states have set up about 100 stalls at the exhibition, showcasing exclusive collections of handmade dresses, jewelry, crockery, home furnishings, and home interior and exterior items.
All the exhibits in the expo are direct output from skilled artisans, and so are reasonably priced. Handlooms from Andhra Pradesh, churidars and nighties from Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, chappals from Manipur, patta paintings of gods from Orissa, jute bags and wall hangings from West Bengal, Kondapalli toys, and wooden sculpture are some of the highlights of the exhibition. But the ceramic coffee and tea mugs in different shapes stand out among the main attractions both for their variety and their pricing.
There are no entry charges for the expo, and its is open from 11:00am to 10:00pm on all days till 19th February. All credit/debit cards are accepted. For further details, please contact the organisers at 093201-35711.
