(The tree, the mayor and the multimedia library)
Julien Dechaumes is a socialist Mayor in a village in Vendee. He wishes to have it equipped with a multimedia library. Berenice Beaurivage, a novelist from Paris, has given him support for this project. However, he has to face the opposition of Marc Rossignol, the village teacher, whose strong belief is that the multimedia library would jeopardize the harmony within the community. This film is a political comedy, which may constitute a new in Eric Rohmer's career. However, it once again brings a lot of pleasure to the audience. The pictures are bright and draw a very sensitive portrait of the French countryside.
