If there is one thing the Navaratris have been marked by so far, it is rain. So what will it be tonite - Kuchipudi or prudence?
Shilparamam, as part of the Navaratri festivities, is organising a Kuchipudi dance recital by the students of Bharata Natyalaya, on 26th September at 7:00PM.
The disciples of Chitra Narayanan, namely Soumya, Shrithi, Swati, Sneha, Krishnapriya, Snigda, Amulya, Srija, Sridevi, Sarvani, Sadhika and Mainita, will present a ballet, Navarupi Nrithyanjali, with three slokas each of Saraswati, Lakshmi and Shakti or Goddess Durga.
Bharata Natyalaya was established in 1947 at Chennai, by Chitra Narayanan's mother and guru Rukmini Srinivasan. The academy has two branches, one in Chennai and the other in Hyderabad, with about 100 students learning Kuchipudi. The academy has given various programs in India and also in the US, but mostly in South India. Chitra Narayanan had received various awards - the Durgabai Deshmukh Award and Natyakala Saraswati, to name a few.
