It's payback time for Akkineni Nageswara Rao, and he's doing it in style. 7 of the best Telugu theater groups are getting in the limelight this week.
The Akkineni Nageshwara Rao Nataka Kala Parishad is organising state-level play competitions, from 25th to 27th September, at Ravindra Bharathi.
These competitions are being organised for the last 11 years. A total of 7 Telugu plays have been selected for participation as per the schedule given below:
25th September
7:00PM - Halaahalam by Pragathi Cultural Association, Hyderabad
8:30PM - Stop Think And Proceed by Supra Arts
26th September
5:30PM - Evaro Okaru by Emmadi Lingaiah Sarojini Memorial Arts, Vijayawada
7:00PM - Tella Kagitham by Kalavani, East and West Godavari
8:30PM - Desaniko Kaanuka by Modern Theatres, Visakhapatnam
27th September
5:30PM - A-tension by Kalapriya, Rajahmundry
7:00PM - Gunapaatham by LVR Club, Guntur
The inaugural program will be presided over by Dr Akkineni Nageshwar Rao on 25th September at 5:30PM. Yesteryear cine actor T L Kanta Rao and Union Minister for Industries T Subbirami Reddy will attend the inaugural function. The winning play will be awarded a gold medal, momento and a cash prize of Rs. 17,000, while the runner-up will carry a cash award of Rs. 10,000, both to be handed over by Dr Akkineni Nageshwar Rao. An amount of Rs. 6,000 will be given to the other 5 participating plays.
The Akkineni Nageshwara Rao Nataka Kala Parishad was established in 1995, with the aim of promoting Telugu theater. Competitions are conducted annually and cash awards are distributed to the winners and the participants too. The Parishad was establised by Saripally Kondal Rao, and its convenor Y K Nageshwar Rao is a famous theater personality and Secretary of the city-based cultural association, Yuvakalavahini.
