After an art residency titled Walk of Art, Daira is now presenting a portfolio exhibition of etchings called Naqsh, to promote this medium of limited edition prints. An etching press was installed in the gallery premises, and like-minded artists got together to etch Naqsh (impressions).
Naqsh comprises works of a few Hyderabad-based artists who, apart from being deeply involved in the tradition of printmaking, have resolved to take this medium to greater heights. D Ananthaiah, Nandini Goud, Sajid Bin Amar, Akshay Anand Singh, Fauqia Tahseen, Gouri Vemula and Shabari Smitha Guha executed the work with dexterity and professionalism.
As an art form, printmaking takes the viewer on a journey of artistic expressions through a technical route. All this is done by a process that demands as much creativity as it needs accuracy and precision.
The innumerable techniques of printmaking are, in fact, the manifestation of artists’ curiosity. A good print, displays not only technique, but also the deftness with which it is done.
Daira - Centre for Arts and Culture is an art gallery set up in 2001, to reach out to as many people as possible via the medium of art. Daira has been promoting not just the plastic arts such as painting, sculpture, graphic arts and installation art, but also other forms such as music, theatre, poetry, photography, filmmaking, designing and crafts.
