As part of its weekly program of classical dance, Shilparamam is presenting a Kuchipudi dance recital by Challa Bala Tripura Sundari from Tenali, on 29th September. A second year B Sc (Computers) student, Sundari will start the recital with a Vinayaka Koutvam, followed by a Narayana Teertha Tarangam, Balantrapu Rajanikanth Rao's Mahishasura Mardhini, Kanjadalayakshi, and a couple of Annamacharya keertanas.
Daughter of C Gurunadha Rao, a commercial clerk with the Indian Railways, and Vijayalakshmi, a housewife, Sundari was initiated into Kuchipudi at a young age of only 3. A disciple of Kaja Venkata Subrahmanyam, Bala Tripura Sundari learnt Kuchipudi initially from M D Giri, in Tenali. She has completed diplomas in both Kuchipudi and Yakshagana, with first class distinction, from the Telugu University, Hyderabad.
Sundari has participated in various national and state level competitions in Kuchipudi, winning three gold medals and other prizes. With more than 200 performances to her credit, she has performed thrice at the Tirupati Brahmotsavams and twice at the Thanjavur dance festivals, at Hyderabad, Mysore, Srisailam, Annavaram and Srirangam, at the Godavari and Krishna pushkarams, at Amaravathi, and at all district headquarters of the state.
