Kuchipudi By Ajay Kumar & Group: Events in Hyderabad

REVIEW FOR KUCHIPUDI BY AJAY KUMAR...

As part of the ongoing All-India Crafts Mela from 15th to 31st December, Shilparamam is presenting Telugu Vaibhavam, a Kuchipudi dance ballet by Ajay Kumar & group from Vijayawada, on 15th December. The ballet has been written by K Vimala Kumari and choreographed by Ajay Kumar.

Telugu Vaibhavam is a 1-hour Kuchipudi dance ballet, focusing on the culture, rivers, dances, poets, kings and the districts of Andhra Pradesh. The ballet will be performed by Surendranath, S K Padusha, Sai Shruthi, Deepthi, Chaitanya, Geeta Poornima, Surekha and Mounika, along with Ajay Kumar.

Ajay Kumar is the founder-president of Hamsadhwani Kuchipudi Nrityalaya at Vijayawada, which was inaugurated by movie director K Vishwanath in 2001. He teaches Kuchipudi here to about 70 students. After getting an M A in Kuchipudi from the Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University at Kuchipudi Kalakshetra, Ajay is currently pursuing his Ph D. He learnt the dance in the traditional style from outstanding teachers like Vedantam Satyanarayana Sarma, Chinta Ramanadham and K V Satyanarayana.

Ajay has performed at many dance festivals in many Indian cities, and has also represented the country in dance tours to Dubai, Sharjah and Singapore. He has been selected by the Department of Culture to perform in USA on June 20th & 21st, 2008. An A-top grade artiste of Doordarshan, he has been awarded with the titles of Singaramani, Nritya Kala Jyothi and Star Dance Master.
